check with local hardware/lumber yards

If you need material of assorted sizes, the best and cheapest way to find it is to go to any place that carries lumber and cuts it on the spot for customers. They ALWAYS have stockpiles of scrap leftovers that are free and work perfect for pretty much any building needs for miniatures. Just ask them for scrap material, and as it comes off of new wood, its in really good shape.

Thin lumber for miniature furniture

I get 95% of my thin lumber (even down to 1/32") on eBay from seller deer56hunter. And he will let you keep buying until you are ready to combine them into a single shipment. Very high quality wood and lots of different flavors!!! He will also cut-to-auction on special requests.

Check Yard sales for Bargains

I find a lot of my wood at yard sales. I look for old broken furniture with pieces of solid walnut or mahogany I can cut down.
