Die Cast X Magazine

About.com Rating 4

By , About.com Guide

The Bottom Line

Die Cast X is a great magazine for people who like to follow new releases of larger scale die cast cars. It reads very much like a standard car magazine, with articles on race drivers, car companies and automotive legends. Photography and articles on die casts are clear with a helpfully consistent rating scale applied to new releases. There is limited coverage of military and work vehicle die casts, and very little on smaller scales. The main focus is on muscle cars, nascar, european exotics and current road models. There is little or no information on the market for resale die casts or auctions.

Pros

  • Great photography
  • Lots of good descriptions of newly released die cast cars
  • Good background articles on Nascar drivers, auto legends, cars

Cons

  • Focus is almost entirely American cars, little on airplanes, military, etc.
  • Mostly focused on 1:18 and 1:24 current models and Nascar
  • Issued four times a year.

Description

  • Good coverage and great photos of newly released larger scale American Dream Car diecasts.
  • Good background information on car model included with each review.
  • Interesting coverage of the American auto industry, racing and personalities.
  • Useful standard comparison chart of specs, features and rating included for each die cast reviewed.

Guide Review - Die Cast X Magazine

Die Cast X is a well produced quarterly magazine for followers of newly released American themed and European exotic die casts. Photography is excellent and allows clear views of the described details of the featured models. There are good background articles on American car history and automotive legends of racing, design and development.

The magazine's focus on new releases means there is little on older collectible or smaller scale die casts, and nothing about the resale or secondary collectors markets. This isn't a failing given the magazines mandate, but it does mean the magazine is of limited interest to collectors of out of production models, auction or resale collectors.

The magazine covers a wide range of models in various price ranges. Many companies new introductions are reviewed in depth, the magazine doesn't concentrate only on the top or bottom lines or special editions. There is very limited coverage of military or work or industrial vehicles, and no coverage of other groups of diecasts (planes, boats, toys etc.) The majority of focus is on American Dream Cars, new, classic or exotic.
