When your dollhouse scale cane has firmed up you can use a sharp polymer clay blade, a tissue blade, or a new razor blade with a single edge, to cut thin slices from your cane. The ends of the cane won't be much use as slices, the best slices will be cut from the center of the cane.
If you want sections of onions (like you use for an onion tart) or whole onions to slice for cooking displays, cut a section of cane a bit longer than 1/4 inch and gently pull the outer coating down evenly over the end of the cane, covering the cross section. You will need to carefully work the outer edges of the cane so that you cover the cross section on either end of your section. Gently roll the onion into a ball with a slightly pointed top. Purple onions are usually less pointed than white or yellow onions. Your whole onions can now be cut with a sharp blade into onion sections instead of slices, or you can cut your onion in half and shave off a few slices to show off your tiny but realistic onions.
Bake your pieces at the temperature recommended for your clay. Watch that you do not overbake thin layers as the translucent clay browns when over cured.
