Dollhouse scale onion slices are easy to make from a basic jelly roll cane of polymer clay. To give the onions more detail, these canes are hand rolled into uneven sections, which keeps a wave in the rolled layers as you reduce the cane to the scale of onion you need.
Although the onions shown here are purple, you can make white onions as well, by substituting white clay for the purple clay shown. An thin outside layer of two shades of light brown can be rolled with stripes to make onion skin on the white onions if you wish.
The onion cane can be sliced to make onion slices for salads, pizzas or garnish, or you can make whole or half onions for work boards. Whole onions can be sectioned to make slices of onion for projects that use them, like the savory onion tart shown here.
