What Size of Bow Will You Make? To make a miniature ribbon bow former, determine the size of bow you want to make. I want to make bows for wreaths and Christmas packages so I am making a form that will create bows equivalent to 9 inches across in 1:12 scale.

Mark Your Wood Take your piece of scrap wood and mark where you will place your nails to make a bow the width you want in your particular scale. You can make bows as small as 1/4 inch across if you have very fine nails, but to start, 3/4 of an inch is good.

Place the Nails Use a hammer to drive two finishing or picture hanging nails or large brads into the scrap wood at your marks. Make sure you drive the nails in straight and not on an angle.

Remove the Nail Heads When the nails are secured, cut the nail heads off with your wire cutters, leaving the nails sticking out of your wood at least one inch in length.

File the Rough Edges File off the top of the nails with the metal file to make sure there are no burrs which will catch your fabric (or your fingers!)
