Ribbon isn't the only material you can use to make miniature bows. Fine bead trims, paper, raffia, thin twigs, strips of cellophane, embroidery thread, decorative wire and other materials can be used over a simple bow former to create unique bows for your miniature scenes.

A Simple Test for Bow Materials To test materials to see if they will work for the size of bow you want to make, form a single loop similar to the size you have set on your bow forming tool. If the loop holds its shape or droops slightly it will make a bow. If the material droops at one size of loop, it can still be used to make smaller size bows. Just find the size where the loop will hold its own shape.
