To highlight some of the special treasures in her vignette, Kristine Hill has pulled them slightly out of the scene and into the foreground on the 'floor' where they are sure to be noticed. Although placing the chair at the work surface blocks a bit of the view of the armoire, it adds to the sense of 'occupancy', and allows a 'natural' hanging of pattern pieces from the back of the chair, as well as showcasing the white blouse hanging on the edge of the door.
Experiment with layout, arranging items by use, color, importance, or any other groupings until you create the moment in time you are after.
