When showing stock breed Breyer and other model horses in Western showmanship performance classes, it's important to follow breed guidelines for proper tack and turnout. Stock horse breeds such as Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas have different showing requirements than Arabians, gaited breeds and other horses. When showing stock breeds of model horses, choose a flat show halter. Flat show halters have flat leather pieces on the cheek pieces, brow bands, nose band and throat latch. The lead shank should be of leather with a thin chain; the chain attaches to the halter ring on the left side. The handler usually stands a few feet away, holding the lead shank at the leather end.
Handler dolls should wear Western show attire.
