Miniature Candy Decorations for Photo Eggs

A miniature wooden photo egg decorated with gel flowers and stripes of acrylic paint.

This miniature wooden egg has been decorated on the curved side with flowers made using Glaze pens, and raised stripes made from acrylic paints and mediums.

This egg has been decorated with acrylic paint thickened with acrylic medium to create lines that resemble icing on a candy egg. The lines were piped from a glue syringe onto a piece of waxed paper (you can use a small plastic bag, or square of plastic with a hole cut in the corner). The lines are allowed to dry before being cut to fit and glued in place on the egg surface. Once the lines had dried in place, Glaze Pens were used to give the look of gel icing to sections of the egg. These gel pens are an easy way to achieve a raised clear decorative line on eggs and are a favorite with children. Allow the colors to dry before you try to add the next color to a tiny space. If you don't have glaze pens, try using markers or gel pens for a similar effect.

Tip If you have trouble holding the egg in place to decorate it, you can use a push pin inserted on the flat side of the egg to hold it while you use a pen on the curved surface. Mistakes can be wiped off before the ink is allowed to dry.
