This photo shows the original door and transom light and demonstrates the thickness and size of the corrugated iron sheeting used to make these houses. The galvanization process also created a thick coating, something which undoubtedly helped this house survive more than 150 years after it was originally made.
The corrugated iron could be easily shipped and the construction method allowed these house to be taken down and moved readily, or be reused for animal or storage shelters.
