Dedicated to Those Who'd Rather Do Minis Than Housework

In Miniature Style is for the most part a compilation of discussions with various miniature artisans and a well chosen range of sample projects covering a number of materials and styles. Author Christine Vertraete is a talented miniaturist and writer, with a love and a flair for the slightly unusual. The major book sections cover topics of interest to most beginning miniaturists;

  • Victorian Style
  • Designing Style - Design and Color
  • Country Style
  • Tudor and Medieval
  • Green Style - recycling
  • Structures (a shed, and front porch)
  • Projects

Each chapter gives information on the major points of the miniature style and how it can be achieved by a new miniaturists using basic techniques. The book is full of good basic information for people who are starting out in miniatures, and want to learn some classic techniques and experiment with various types of miniatures across a range of themes. The photos illustrate achievealble projects, items which are not going to take forever to plan and build.

Featured Projects

Over forty projects are included, covering a wide range from simple display structures, furniture, flowers, food, soft goods and upholstered projects to doll clothing and accessories. The projects are from a range of featured artisans and fit within the themes of the book discussions on displays. The projects are not designed to complete particular displays. They do expose newcomers to a range of materials and techniques, and can be used in a wide range of scenes. The projects are well illustrated and explained and are easily made with materials which can be readily found. View Christine's website page on the book linked above to see some of the featured projects.

Easy to read, the book is a bit like having a miniature club to yourself. The chapters feature formats that seem like club speaker topics, or club class sessions for beginners.

Choosing a Version and Format

There are some variations between the different book formats the book appears in. The E book version, available for a range of E book readers, has a single column format, as does the pdf version making it easier to use on screens. The hutch and ice box projects are only in E book version #1 (Pink cover) or the printed version of In Miniature Style II. The updated, In Miniature Style II contains some new projects not found in In Miniature Style which was the earlier version of the book published in 2002. All versions of the book are linked to Christine Verstraete's website. The book is available in Kindle and Ipad formats, as well as for numerous other ebook readers. Printed copies can be purchased via Amazon.
