To add to the detail of your miniature dolls house roses, you can easily create thorns and calyxes (the tiny leaves under the flower).
To Make a Calyx Mix a bit of Acrylic Medium with some of the green watercolor you will use for your leaves. This should create a thick acrylic paint which can be used to make tiny leaves at the base of your rose. Make sure you add enough color, or the paint will be very transparent when it dries. Use a fine paint brush or a toothpick to draw small leaves with the acrylic mixture on the base of the rose. If you wish, you can use this thick gel to create a rounded bulb at the base of the calyx leaves. If you add a bit of dark brown (burnt umber) paint to your green mix, you can use a toothpick to dab on tiny thorns for your rose stems. Pull the thick paint away from the stem with the toothpick in an upward motion to create sharp points for your thorns.
Paint the Rose Stems When the thorns and calyx are dry, brush some of the green watercolor you will use for the leaves along the stems to make sure their color is closer to the leaf color. Rose stems are sometimes a different color from the leaves so this detail is not too important.
