Choose Your Paper for Dolls House Flower Pots To begin making a miniature flower pot from paper strip, first choose your paper. The paper should be 24- 50 lb (ink jet paper to lightweight cover stock paper) colored both sides if you will see the inside of the pot. Pre cut 1/8 inch quilling paper (available from craft stores and scrapbook suppliers) is ideal, especially in terracotta, black or cream shades, but you can cut even strips from any colored paper.
Cut Your Paper It is important to cut even strips of paper with a paper cutter or long bladed scissors. If you use a paper cutter, cut 1/8 inch wide strips running the longest length possible. If you are using scissors to cut paper, use a blunt needle or an empty ball point pen or a paper embossing tool to mark lines 1/8 inch apart on your paper and cut along the creased line to make sure your paper is a straight as possible. If you are using the printable strips in colors that coordinate with many of the printable papers on this site, cut along the edge of the strip so that no white shows. If you want to match a set of pots or bowls to any wallpaper designs on this site, print out a sheet of plain wall paper and cut strips from that.
Form Tight Coils From the Paper Strips Using a quilling tool or a fine pointed set of tweezers, bend one end of your paper strip tightly to wrap around the quilling tool or the tweezers. Continue to wrap the paper tightly around the coil. The size of your pot is determined by the size of the coil. To make an 8 inch flower pot in 1:12 scale, you will need a tight coil of paper 3/4 of an inch in diameter. To make your coil the correct size, glue a new strip of paper to the end of your coiled strip 1/4 inch from the end. When your coil is the correct size, glue the end of the strip to the layer beneath it in the coil. Set aside to dry.
