To add a nautical touch to a dolls house miniature scene or to furnish a model boat you can easily make international signal flag designs into pillows using scraps of fabric and fusible fabric webbing. For these pillows, bias binding tape was ironed flat, cut into squares and rectangles, pattern pieces were fused on, and the sides sewn with small 1/8 inch selvedges on the sewing machine, before the pillows were stuffed using tweezers or haemostats The bias binding tape creates an effect very similar to woven canvas when it is used for miniature scales. Bias binding is tightly woven, allowing it to be cut with straight edges and used as an iron on applique without needing to finish the edges.
