Icing a Miniature Photo Cake

If you have chosen a photo to create the illusion of a dolls house scale ice cream cake, or a commercial cake created with a photo, you can add writing to the top of the cake using a special 3D glaze or embossing pen from your art supply or scrapbooking store.

Coat the photo or artwork with tar gel and allow to dry to create a glossy surface (or use two coats of acrylic gloss varnish). Write or print your message on a test piece of card first to test your pen, then write your message on the glazed photo surface.

If you have enough control over paint with a glue syringe, you can also add clear acrylic tar gel medium to a paint color to create a clear glaze icing effect for writing. Mix the tar gel with acrylic paint so that it is the color you wish, load the syringe and ice your message.

When the cake top is completely dry, cut the top along the finished edges.

Creating Pieces of Your Cake

If you wish, you can cut small pieces out of the top to create cut pieces for you finished cake. Cut the pieces an appropriate serving size or shape once the top of the cake is completely dry.
