Final Steps to a Realistic Iced Miniature Cake for a Dolls House or Scale Scene

When your cake is finished, set it out in a display.

The final step is to ice along the top edge of your miniature cake, using the same icing and method as the top decorative icing or as the sides, to finish the cake top and hide the cut edges.

If there is no decorative icing on the top (if it is a photo cake, or if the decoration isn’t along the outside edge) ice the edge of the photo with the same paint as the sides, and use a toothpick to blend the top and sides together. Make sure all of the photo edges are covered.

Set your cake aside to dry

When dry, set the cake up in your miniature or dolls house display. It will be very lightweight so you may want to use some florist’s adhesive or museum wax, to hold it in place in the display. Use china plates if you wish, or make dolls house paper plates to display along with your cake. To match the plates to your cake’s decorative theme, you can color blank paper plates with the same color of gel pen you used for writing on the top of the cake.
