- Cover the cork hat form with plastic food wrap to keep the felt clean.
- Dampen the piece of felt for your hat slightly with water. You don't want it dripping wet!
- Center the felt on the hat form and gently pull down on the sides to stretch the felt over the form. Don't worry about it having a crease on the top yet.
- Place the twist tie over the groove you cut in your cork to mark the height of the crown. Hold the stretched felt tightly over the hat form by tightening the twist tie over it to hold it in place. If you use a flat twist tie it will make a neat mark in the felt for your hatband.
- Even out the wrinklesin the extra felt below the twist tie so that the brim will be easier to make.
- Create the crease in the top of the hat by pushing down gently on the felt above the crease line with the back (dull side) of a knife blade. Push the felt completely into the crease you cut when you made the hat form.
- Leave the felt to dry completely.
- Remove the molded crown after it is completely dry and test that it fits your scale doll or hat stand.
- If the fit is correct spread a thin layer of pva glue around the inner surface of the shaped hat crown and set it back on the plastic covered hat form to dry. Tie it back in place with the twist tie, and remold the crease in the crown if necessary. Allow the glue to dry completely (over night).
