Materials

To build a working miniature bear themed lamp in 1:12 scale for a dolls' house you will need:

  • A bear shaped bead - standing approximately ½ inch tall with a pre drilled hole.
  • A lamp wiring set - bulb, socket, wire and plug (if you need a plug for your wiring system).
  • Fine plastic or metal tubing - to fit through the hole in the bead , which allows the wire to pass through.
  • Parchment or Vellum paper- for the lampshade.
  • 1/8 inch thick basswood - sized to be the base of the lamp.
  • Acrylic paints - to match the tubing to the bead color and also to paint the lamp base.
  • Brown thread- six to ten inches of embroidery cotton, or brown waxed linen to sew the lampshade together.
  • 6-8 inches of #20 wire - to make the lampshade support or harp.
  • A filigree bead cap - one whose arms can be spread out to cover the top of the lampshade. The one shown started as a half inch tall bead cap, but spreads to cover the top of the shade.

Tools:

  • Craft/ Exacto knife
  • Tweezers
  • Fine nosed pliers
  • Straight pin or fine awl
  • Fine scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Strong glue - I used The Ultimate from Crafter's Pick which will glue metal and plastic.

This lamp can be built in other scales using a smaller bead and light bulb.
