When you have your siding applied and aged, take your supply of aged shingles and apply them to the peak area of the dollhouse facade.
Begin with a narrow strip of trimmings from the shingle material, laid in a line across the front of the facade, 1/8 inch or less above where you wish to start your shingles. Glue this line of material in place, then begin to lay your first line of shingles, placing the shingles together so that only a hairline separates them. Trim the top of the outer edge of shingles to match the roof pitch on the gator foam.
Glue shingles by applying a T of glue across the top edge and down the center of each shingle. Lay the first row of shingles so that they overlap the starting trim by at least 1/8 of an inch. Use a scrap of ½ inch wood, or gatorfoam to act as a guide for laying the second row of shingles, which should be spaced ½ inch above the first row, with shingles laid to overlap the gaps of the shingles below. Trim the shingles at the sloped edges of the roof before gluing in place. They cannot stick up above the roof edge or the roof will not glue properly in place.
When your shingles are in place, apply your battens, except for the battens on the outside edges of the facade. These will be glued in place when the sides are finished.
Make sure you put a piece of batten across the top between the shingle and the board and batten areas. Place this piece first, to allow you to correctly measure your upright battens.
