This Edwardian New Years card was sent to the young girl who received many of the Christmas cards in this gallery. The card has unusual silver gilding with an icicle design that appears when the card is moved. All the non silver elements are heavily embossed. The card was printed in Germany, which probably explains the toadstool the young girl is holding for luck. Other lucky symbols include the dog (a symbol of faithfulness) and the four leaf clovers above the girl's head. The card is postmarked 1909 and is in very good condition.
Cost $5 from a used book dealer.
