Eden Hooper wrote verses for Raphael Tuck and Sons cards during the 1880's. This Victorian card features somber fall foliage on a dark background with bronze silk fringe. The verses on the cards are not part of a single poem. The two shown here read The joys that feed the merry heart/ The mirth of Christmas cheer/ Be yours for many a Christmas Day / And many a bright New Year. The facing side reads May He Whose changeless glorious name / Is now and evermore "the same"./ Make this and every Christmas Day/ A brighter light upon thy way.
The two cards shown here are glued back to back with the two similar series cards shown in the previous photo. A narrow fabric strip is used to hinge the card and a ribbon tab allows the fringed sides to be separated.
Cost $20 and up depending on condition and rarity. These cards are becoming increasingly harder to find.
