Explanation of Scale Ruler

Definition: Scale ruler - a measurement scale with scale ratios worked out. A 1:12 scale ruler shows separations in twelfths of inches or mm allowing a modeller to use the fractions of an inch (mm) to estimate equivalent inches (mm) in scale. Architectural rules commonly offer scales of 1:16, 3:32,1:8, 3:16, 1:4, 3:8, 3:4 , 1 1/2, and 3. Rules are also available in model railroad scales. A dollhouse scale rule shows measurements in 1:12 scale, 1:24 scale and 1:48 scale.

Examples: When you hold a scale rule up to a miniature you can quickly determine the equivalent real size represented by the miniature's scale.
