Bead board comes in a range of widths, usually between 1 1/2 and 3 inches. To set up your craft wood or illustration board for the series of angled cuts you will need to make scale miniature bead board, mark your wood or book board along the grain (the direction the wood splits most easily, or the line book board curves toward). It is very difficult to cut wood across the grain line to make the angled cuts for bead board.
Use a fine pencil and a metal ruler and mark your lines as accurately as possible. Make sure your piece of wood is square, and check that your lines are square to the edge by using an engineer's square I used a spacing of 3/16 inch (5mm) for the beadboard I cut for the back of a dolls' house kitchen plate rack. You can alternate between wide and narrow boards as well to make any of a range of bead board variations.
