When making knit tops and dresses for smaller scale dolls (Blythe and Pullip as well as Fashion dolls and dolls house dolls) you can find small amounts of fine knit fabrics in the bargain section of women's lingerie departments. Fine knit cotton underwear can cost as little as $1 a pair and is often in current colors and patterns suitable for tops and knits that make easily removable clothing for smaller scale dolls. If you know what size pattern pieces you need to fit your doll (see How to Make a Basic Sloper Pattern For Any Doll) you can choose inexpensive lingerie that contains large enough sections of fabric to cut out the pieces you need to costume your doll. Keep an eye out for coordinating patterns and colors. The bargain underwear bin often has bright colors or small patterns that are great for dolls clothes. As a bonus you may also end up with small scale trims, laces or fine elastic you can use for your doll clothing as well.

Another good source for fine knits are baby tights or one piece 'babygrows' or 'onsies' which often have thin knit fabric and small scale patterns.
