The Bottom Line
Pros
- Allows movement of miniatures, but holds securely in place in case of jarring or shaking
- Water based, non toxic, can be removed with alcohol
- Applied like nailpolish, in three separate coats
- Allows easy repositioning but dries glossy, so it is noticeable
- Not affected by high temperatures (like most museum waxes)
Cons
- Need to leave to dry for one hour between coats and need three coats
- Best for light items on clean even surfaces. Won't hold on gaming terrain or dollhouse carpets.
Description
- Good for holding miniatures on display shelves, tabletops or on smooth surfaces in scenes.
- Good holding strength if evenly applied in several coats.
- Good glue to use for temporarily holding pieces in place in acrylic shipping cartons. Not as affected by heat or cold as wax.
- Good way to glue items such as miniature foods or garden pots, which will be removed from a temporary display and sold.
- Helpful to hold small pieces in place in displays or room boxes which get jarred or shaken from time to time
- Good method of holding pieces in place on glass shelves.
Guide Review - Temporary Glue
Moveable Miniatures Glue is a useful adhesive for securing miniatures to smooth surfaces. It works on wood, glass, metal, plastic and glazed ceramics, as long as the surfaces are flat and clean. The ability to remove and reposition the object without leaving a residue behind is a bonus. The number of times the object can be removed and repositioned depends on the eventual build up of dirt on the tacky glue surface.
This glue is very useful for setting up scenes with smaller scale miniatures. Micro mini dollhouse miniatures, and N and Z scale train accessories are very difficult to place temporarily as they fall over easily and are often affected by static electricity. A coat of moveable miniatures glue on the bases of figures, allows them to be moved and repositioned until you have the final location set for them. It is also useful for temporary scenes as in Christmas villages, where the figures must remain in place, and then be removed to pack away for the future.
If figures which have moveable miniatures glue on the bottom surface are packed away for future use, they should be positioned on a small scrap of smooth plastic, to keep the glue surface clean for the next use.
