The Bottom Line

Flocking comes and goes from craft stores. This range of brightly colored flocking from Doodlebug Design Inc. coordinates with a range of plain and flocked craft papers, ribbons and other scrapbooking supplies many of which are useful for miniatures. The flocking can be applied to any glue to create raised flocked surfaces or details such as fuzzy coats on 1:12 scale Christmas tree santas or other ornaments. The very fine, short fiber powder is easy to use and comes as single colors or in sets.

Guide Review - Fine Flocking for Miniature Projects

Flocking is something many miniaturists make themselves, but for some miniature projects it is very useful to have an extra fine powdered flock. The bright colors of this crushed velvet flocking stand out for modern miniatures. It would also be good to flock brightly colored tiny toys, or even make grass or landscaping for that 1:144 scale house or railroad.

Using the flock is simple. Apply glue to the object you want to flock, or stamp or stencil an outline in glue on an object and gently shake the flocking powder over the glue. Excess flocking can be gathered up in a piece of paper and returned to the jar.

Lots of projects become fairly simple with this fine flocking powder. You can create miniature flocked wallpapers or velvet pile effect fabrics, add a fine fur layer to smaller scale dogs or cats, even create 12 o'clock shadows on miniature dolls.

The color range is very contemporary and bright, lending this material to use to modern or 60's pop scenes. This should be a fun material to decorate a wide range of miniatures and dolls house projects.
