Phil Cadman a miniaturist in South Africa who works with wood, copper, brass and sterling silver submitted this wonderfully detailed spinning wheel. Phil does do commissions!
Here's the info he sent in with the photo
This is an exact replica built from original drawings that were reduced to 1/12th scale. It consists of 56 parts, mostly press fitted together, made with African Stinkwood and Ebony. The wheel works, however it is not possible for any wheel of this size, made from timber, to have enough inertia to complete the upward cycle of the Treadle.
The wheel was assembled with a split hub to locate the spokes. The rim is made of four segments, biscuit jointed together and finished on the lathe.
The pins locating the end caps and wheel track adjusters were turned from Ebony to 0.6mm dia. All the threads were cut with metric taps and dies using a home grown technique to prevent tearing of the grain.
The drive belt posed a huge problem. It is one piece twisted in half. I eventually found by chance that a calf length stocking has this very fine elastic sewn into the garter. I managed after some difficulty to butt weld it with super-glue. The hooks are from stainless steel trace wire.
