Cut Out the Hippopotamus Parts

Match the legs and arms on the two felt parts for the miniature hippo before you sew.

Cut out felt parts are stacked with the small piece on top of the large piece, matching the legs.

Use the pattern pieces linked to the materials list, to cut out the two main body parts for the hippopotamus, as well as two ears, from your main felt color. If you have a bit of pink felt, use it to make linings for the ears. If you wish, you can also cut out two tiny round pink circles for nostrils.

Cut the pattern pieces carefully on the lines, the pattern allows for a 1/8 inch sewing allowance. It sometimes helps to tape the roughly cut out pattern piece to the felt to secure it while you cut out the felt pieces.

Lay out the pieces so that the shorter piece (with the lower jaw) is lying on top of the larger piece, with the legs and arms matching as shown in the photo.
