The Bottom Line

The Daisy House 1:24 Bed Kit is high quality, easy to assemble basswood dolls house furniture kit for a double bed in 1:24 or half scale. The kits are widely available from miniature shops and online. The attention to detail and clear instructions makes these wooden kits a good introduction for beginners who want to try building with wood, but don’t want to gather all the different types of stock and cut out every piece themselves. These kits fit in a wide range of scenes, are easily modified, and are sturdy enough to be used as dollhouse play furniture for children.

Pros

  • Precut quality basswood parts - No need to own tools for woodwork, or buy stripwood
  • Good instructions make these easy to build in a short period.
  • Good attention to scale
  • Bed design lends itself to a number of dolls house styles - Easy to paint and decorate if desired

Cons

  • Require patience while glue dries!

Guide Review - The Daisy House Doll House Bed Kit in 1:24 Scale

Like all of The Daisy House kits for dollhouse furniture, the 1:24 scale or 'half scale' bed kit comes with everything you need to build a detailed 1:24 scale bed except for glue and finish. The kit includes instructions, a sheet of tips, pre cut basswood parts (29), two grades of sandpaper, toothpicks and cotton buds.

The kit can be successfully built in an evening and will fit a wide range of scenes and periods. It is sturdy enough for careful play by children, although for this purpose you should assemble it using proper wood glue. Scale detail is excellent and the wood used is a high quality basswood with all pieces pre-cut to size. An illustrated parts list makes it easy to determine which piece you need for each step. The clear instructions ensure even a complete beginner will have a successful building experience.

To finish the kit you sand the pieces, check the fit, and glue the kit together. No wood joints, screws or nails are used, the kit uses simple butt joins and face gluing of parts to assemble.

Materials Needed to Finish Your Bed Kit:

  • A general purpose wood or pva glue. - Daisy House suggest Weldbond, or Tacky glue.
  • Tack cloth or damp cloth - to remove sanding residue.
  • Pencil and a Ruler - to make marks before gluing.
  • Paint brushes - for staining or finishing.
  • Paints or wood finish – Daisy House kits include the finish directions (complete with paint colors) for the photographs shown on their package. They also have suggestions for aging the finish.

The design of this bed leaves you panels on the head or footboard where you can add painted, fabric or decal details to your chosen design. Suggestions are given for fitting a mattress. The finished bed is 3 9/16 inches long x 2 7/16 inches deep with a 2 high panelled headboard in the 'Mission' style of the early 1900's. The bed fits easily into small 1:24 scale rooms, like the rooms of the Creatology Puzzle Dolls Houses. The head and footboard designs allow for a good view of bedding and surrounding furniture pieces.

Price and Availability - available online from Daisy House and other dolls house retailers, available in many dolls house shops. Cost $16.00
