The Bottom Line

Lineco's pH Neutral PVA is a high quality pH neutral PVA glue with a thin formulation ideal for paper and card projects. The glue has good 'lay flat' properties for wrinkle free work with paper and it dries quickly. While this is a great glue for paper and fabric projects, it can also be used as a size to seal fabric or wood.

Pros

  • Clear Drying, Acid Free and Solvent Free PVA
  • Good Tack for Most Projects
  • Great for Applying Paper, Will Not Yellow and Can be Reactivated with Water.

Cons

  • Not for Outdoor Use
  • Like all PVA Glues Should Not Be Subjected to Freezing When Shipped or Stored

Description

  • pH neutral(acid free) PVA glue with a thin formulation great for papers and fabrics
  • Can be used to glue wood, paper, leather, fabric and other porous materials
  • Thin formulation and tackiness make it good for gluing paper layers or paper to backings without wrinkles.

Guide Review - Lineco pH Neutral PVA Glue - Easy to Use Non Yellowing Flexible PVA Glue

Lineco make a pH neutral, PVA glue especially aimed at professionals and artists who work with fabrics and papers. This is an excellent pva glue for most miniature, modelling and dolls house uses on porous materials. PVA glues are not suitable for non porous materials like metals and glass.

Like other professional quality PVA glues it dries clear and non yellowing, with good stability to light and continued flexibility. It is described as a 'lay flat' glue, with a formulation that keeps papers from wrinking or curling. It dries fairly quickly, despite the thin formulation. Like all PVA glues it does shrink slightly on drying, but if properly applied in thin layers the shrinkage is minimal and does not affect the objects being glued.

Lineco's PVA glue has a modified dextrine base, which allows it to be reactivated or removed with water, unlike some other PVA glue formulations which must be removed with organic solvents.

The glue is available from art supply stores and quality craft stores/ scrapbooking stores. The formulation is thinner than acidic 'tacky' glues, with a longer open time, but the glue can be allowed to thicken on a plate before you apply it if thin glue is not to your liking. This is an emulsion formula PVA glue and can be mixed with water if you wish to use it to size or coat wood or fabric.

Thinner PVA's have an advantage in that they permeate fabrics and papers more easily than thicker glues for a better bond, which is why they are preferred by professional bookbinders and artists who work with paper, but many impatient craftspeople prefer thicker formulations which take less time to set up. With thinner formulations, the artist can control the working qualities of the glue, by allowing the thinner formulation to partially dry out and thicken before applying it in some cases.

Always choose pH neutral (acid - free) glues when working on projects you want to last, or those you consider artisan quality. I am constantly reminding people that they should always search out pH neutral materials when working with fabric, wood and paper projects. Many PVA glues are not neutral, and their acidity will spread into the items they are used to glue, often causing discoloration, or breakdown of otherwise stable materials. Yellowing of dolls house wallpapers, brittle bindings in miniature books, can all be caused by using the incorrect glue. There is no point in using acid neutral papers for a project, if you are going to glue them together with an acidic glue! Not all PVA glues are pH neutral. Most craft and wood glues are not.
