Hold Fine Brads, Pins and Nails Steady While You Push Them Into Place

By Lesley Shepherd, About.com

Definition:

A palm nailer, push nailer, nail driver or brad nailer is a palm held, spring loaded tool with a barrel for holding fine brads and pins. A fine hobby nail or brad is dropped down the barrel of the tool and the tool is then held against the wood and pushed. The sliding barrel of the nailer allows you to push fine pins and brads into a piece of wood using the spring loaded setter which runs inside the barrel.

A variety of types of brad/pin nailers are available from hobby stores for railroad and model boat building pins. Nail drivers for standard size brads and finishing nails are available from woodworking stores.

These tools are useful for fitting pins as hinges for dolls house doors, setting fine brass pins into hinges for dolls house furniture and doors, working with electrical tapewire systems, holding railroad track to the railbed, or nailing planks on wooden boat models.
