Mold Lines - Definition

By Lesley Shepherd, About.com

Definition: Mold lines - Mould lines – cast items (porcelain, china, pottery, glass, plastic and resins) are produced using molds which gradually wear as more casts are produced. Items cast at the beginning of a mold's life will have much crisper detailing (mold lines) than items which are cast later in the production run which may have softer, less defined detail. Higher quality collectibles have crisp mold lines from the beginning of the mold's life.
Alternate Spellings: mould
Examples:
The mold lines on her miniature house were crisp and clearly defined.
