Definition: High Friction Guard Tape- Carvers Tape - Thumb or Finger Guard Tape are various names used for a self stick latex coated gauze, used by woodcarvers and woodworkers to make re-useable protective thumb and finger coverings. The tape sticks to itself without tape or adhesive and can be used to make simple coverings to protect thumbs and fingers against tool cuts. Protective finger guards can be slipped off and on, simply by squeezing the guard back to a tight fit on the finger or thumb.
Also Known As: Guard Tape, Self Stick Gauze, Latex Gauze
Examples:
Always wrap the thumb of the hand that hold a carving or whittling knife with carvers guard tape to protect it against cuts.
