By Lesley Shepherd, About.com

Definition:

Bookboard is a strong paper based board used for the covers of books, book slip cases, and other boxes. It is strong and dense and resists softening on corners. Most bookboard is single ply. Bookboard is sold in several thicknesses, usually from .060" for smaller books to .098" or approximately 1/8 inch thick for larger boxes. The most commonly available thickness is .080 (approximately 3/32 of a inch). Different brands have different construction methods and weights. Whenever possible pH buffered bookboard should be used for projects to avoid problems with acidity.

Bookboard is available from art supply stores and specialist book binding stores. It is often available in precut sizes from scrapbook suppliers.

Also Known As: chipboard, paperboard, binder's board, Davey board, Eska board, Eterno board
