Adjust the Shelves and Finish the Case

When the shelves and case edges have been veneered, make the final test fit of the shelves in the case. If necessary, create small grooves using sandpaper or a rotary tool, to seat the bottom of the shelves on the shelf support pins. Sand any edges of the shelves to make sure you have a good fit.

Use a white pencil eraser to erase any markings on the wood.

Use fine steel wool as a final step in sanding the finish. Clean up all sawdust and dust with a tack cloth. Stain or seal your case with your chosen wood finish.

To Mount Doors on the Case

If you wish you can cut standard doors from the remaining piece of wood and mount them on the case using lengths of piano hinge or cranked hinges. Cranked hinges which fit 1/2 inch plywood are available from specialty wood suppliers and online from Lee Valley and other suppliers. For doors for this case you will need three cranked hinges for each door. As the final step for this case (in a following set of instructions) I will be adding a dolls house door and windows to the case doors to make it resemble a true dollhouse.
