The townhouse sized case shown here can be constructed (including front doors) from a single 60 x 60 inch sheet of 1/2 inch Baltic Birch Plywood. Print the PDF Layout Diagram .
This baby house case will fit the Baltic birch roomboxes or the simple bookboard roomboxes. If you would rather build a regular dolls house, eliminate the shelves, and build in floors and room dividers instead of housing a roombox collection. As this collection is designed for a child, the case will adapt to being turned into a bookcase if the child abandons their dolls house hobby.
To Make the Baby House/Dollhouse/Bookcase you will need:
- Baltic Birch Plywood The townhouse shown used one 5ft x 5ft sheet of 1/2 inch Baltic birch plywood. You could use mdf or good both sides plywood.
- Table Saw to cut the pieces to size. If you don't have a table saw you may be able to arrange for a lumberyard to cut the pieces for you.
- Biscuit Joiner and small biscuits As the case is built from 1/2 plywood, biscuits were used to join the pieces. You can use a different joining method (dowels, half lapped joints) if you wish.
- Birch Edging Tape to finish the edges of the plywood shelves and the exposed plywood edges on the case, iron on wood edging tape was used.
- Iron to apply edging tape.
- Sharp box cutting knife to trim iron on edge banding after it is applied.
- Assorted Wood Clamps to clamp pieces together.
- Carpenters Glue to glue case together.
- Metal Shelf Support Pegs I used eight basic support pegs which are interchangeable with my basic Swedish bookcases.
- Drill and Bit to fit the shelf supports you will use.
- Sanding Block or power sander.
- Sandpaper Use a finishing grade paper (180 or higher) Baltic birch plywood will need little sanding.
- Wood Finish of your choice. I will use a clear polyurethane varnish to show off the wood.
