Apply the Cornice Trim and Finish The Doors

Cornice molding on the top edge of a front opening dolls house masks the top of the house.

Cornice molding is glued to top of the front opening doors on a dollhouse, covering the top edge of the house, the split in the molding marks the edge of the door opening.

Cut your piece of crown molding or decorative molding to fit across the top of each of the doors and line up with the slightly overhanging side pieces of quoin that you fitted in the previous step. Set the cornice so that it is slightly higher than the top of the door, this will help disguise any minor imperfections in how you hung or cut your doll house front. When you have cut the pieces, check that they fit properly above the quoin molding and that they meet cleanly at the join of the doors. Glue and clamp the cornice to the doors so it fits tightly to the quoins beneath it.

When the cornice is securely glued to the doors you can go ahead and finish your dollhouse front with a clear protective finish, or a painted finish.
