This simple dolls house shelf can be made in many sizes and scales and shows the easiest way to make a set of shelves, using two pieces of wood. This shelf is suited to lightweight items only. The construction is not ideal for supporting rows of books or heavy pottery or metal miniatures.

If you want to make the shelf stronger, you will need to join the two boards with a lapped or rabbet join, or support the upper shelf with upright supports at either end of the peg rail. The peg rail system can be used alone without an upper shelf, spacing the pegs appropriately to hold tools, like the shovels and spades or bristle brooms for a workshop or garden potting shed.

These simple shelves are standard in work situations, or anywhere lightweight shelves are needed.
