These tiny polymer clay swan cookies are made from punched hearts, and can be sized to several scales. If you don't have a heart punch in the correct size, you can make your own heart shaped 'cookie' cutter from a large straw, or scrap foil, following the instructions for making custom miniature cookie cutters. If you are new to working with polymer clay make sure you read the Basics of Polymer Clay before you begin this project.
These swans are a variation of the traditional choux paste or cream puff swans. The miniature cookie versions can be decorated in many colors and combinations which are not possible with the cream puff versions.
If you want to make cream puff swans, the neck and head parts are formed the same way, but instead of two cookies for the sides of the swan, the swan's body is a hollowed out base of a cream puff, with wings made from halves of the cream puff top, set into a cream filling.
You can see real cream puff swans on the About Scandinavian Food site, where the recipe is given for Almond Valkyries.
