The final coloring for your dollhouse scale panettone is added with a layer of dark brown pastel or chalk. I used PanPastel Burnt Sienna Shade which gives a rich deep brown crust color. Make sure you use a sponge applicator or make up applicator to get the pastel down into the cracks on the surface of the panettone. In some areas, blend the dark color into the lighter orange color you applied previously. Think of how the loaf would be exposed to heat in an oven and color it accordingly. A tiny amount of the color also seeps into the loaf beneath the crust.
If you are going to cover your panettone with a baking collar, you may need to tint your brown paper collar with a bit of dark pastel as well.
