Make A Flickering Miniature Fire from LED's
This miniature fire is made from three colored LEDs. It flashes and flickers realistically, without putting out a lot of heat, making it idea for tight locations in a dolls house. You can set it in a fireplace, a barbeque pit, or a kitchen range, without worrying about the heat produced by the led bulbs. Depending on the type of LED's you use, the fire can be powered by AC (alternating) current, or DC (direct current) from a transformer or a battery pack.
Although you can create a similar effect with blinking regular bulbs or a mixture of red and clear bulbs commonly sold for dollhouse fires, the fires powered by regular bulbs will give off too much heat to allow them to be set behind a fireplace grate under a mantel, or inside a dolls house range.

Many dollhouse table lamps can be built using a bead which has a large enough hole to allow wires for a bulb to pass through.

This working trouble light for a die cast car or miniature garage was designed to be built around an led bulb so it doesn't give off heat that might damage parts of a model car. The light is easy to assemble from common materials, and is designed to be connected to a 9 volt battery so it can be operated without a full transformer to light up a single car engine on a shelf. As shown in these instructions it is built to 1:18 scale, but it is easy to modify the lamp surround to make it work in different scales.
