Sew the Skirt Pieces Together For the Dollhouse Doll Dress
Outer circular edges of a dolls skirt are sewn together as are the cut edges that form the sides.

The outer and opening edges of a simple dolls skirt are sewn together and trimmed close to the stitching.

Sewing Raveling Fabric Place the two circles you cut out in the previous step with their right sides together, and use a sewing machine to sew a seam around the outside edge of the circle, 1/8 inch in from the edge. Sew an 1/8 inch seam along the edges of the straight line you cut into the center of the circle. Do not sew the edges in the center of the circle.

You can see how the skirt pieces are sewn together in the photo above. Keep your stitching as even as possible and try to avoid stretching the fabric. If you are sewing very fine fabric, lawn or scarf silk, you can stabilize your fabric by laying it on top of a piece of clean paper and sewing through the paper as well as the fabric. Tear the paper carefully away from the seams.

Trim the fabric close to the seam and use fray check or pva glue to coat the seam edges if your fabric is likely to pull away from the seam when you turn the edges.

Turn the fabric to the outside, leaving the seam between the two circles of skirt. Iron the skirt flat, making sure the corners of the straight edges are turned neatly right side out.

If you make the skirt from non ravelling fabric you do not need to sew two pieces together to protect the edge of the skirt. Felt and polar fleece can be trimmed neatly to a circular edge. You will only need one circle of fabric for a skirt made of felt or similar fabric.
