To keep most tricorne hats from wearing on the edge, the edge was trimmed with ribbon or braid. Simpler hats featured plain ribbon, more elaborate hats might be trimmed with a line of feathers.
The hat shown here is trimmed by gluing a thin line of fairy lace in place just below the edge of the hat. Very fine lace like this is available from several dolls house specialist suppliers. This particular braid came from Dragonfly International Miniatures.
Glue was laid along the edge in a very thin line and the braid was then pressed in place, taking care to make sharp corners where the sides of the hat meet.
