Parts Needed For each hat you will need two brims, and at least one crown and one band section. You can line the inside of the hat crown with a second band and crown if you wish.
Prepare the Brims Cut out two brim sections, one for the upper section and one for the underlining. Cut along the dashed line towards the center of each brim section, then roughly cut out the inner circle of teeth as tabs to hold the brim to the hatband. Turn the tabs on the top (visible) section of the hat upwards, and turn the tabs on the brim lining downwards as shown in the photo. You do not need to cut out each tooth individually, groups of three or four teeth per tab are fine. You can adjust your cuts later when you have shaped the brim and the crown sections. The edge of the brim does not need to be exact as you will trim this after the sections are glued.
Prepare the Band The hat band can be adjusted by leaving it wide or cutting it narrower to adjust the height of the hat. Cut out the tooth section roughly or in clusters of three teeth to each tab section. You can make any additional cuts later in the assembly process. Fold the tabbed or toothed section at right angles to the main band, just along the base of the teeth as shown in the photo.Prepare the Crown The crown in 1:12 scale is a 3/4 inch circle and can be cut with a circle punch or by hand. Try to cut it as neatly as possible.
