As you work, continuously check the side and back views of the doll's torso as well as the front, to make sure the shape is in balance. The shoulders should line up with the ear and the back shoulder blades should be slightly prominent, with a hollow in the area of the dolls back in line with the neck. If your doll will have a low neckline, you may need to do as much work on the back of the doll's torso as on the front.
Keep Checking and Balancing Although none of us are built exactly the same on each half of our body, a doll should look even on both halves. If you have trouble seeing if your doll shape is in balance, view it upside down or in a mirror where you can analyse shapes better. To check the line of the shoulders, lay the doll down on a sheet of cling film that is on top of a piece of gridded paper. The grid will help you see if one side is raised higher than another.
