Using the basic proportions based on the head size, determine the width of your doll's shoulders. Female dolls will have shoulders roughly 1 1/2 heads wide. Male dolls will have shoulders two heads wide. Bend your arm wire down to mark the width of the shoulders.

Begin the Torso Shape Add a small amount of clay to cover the shoulder wire and blend into the neck area of the doll. Blend the new clay or epoxy smoothly into the neck of the doll to meld the new and old areas.

Mark the Breast Line For a female doll, use a toothpick to make an x across the doll's chest on a line from the edge of the neck towards the center of the body. Use a rounded toothpick as a roller, or use wooden modelling tools to gently move some of the clay from the base V in the neck out towards the shoulders or down to the breast area. The chest will be lower in the central V than it will be on the outer edges. Mark a line at the base of the second head length on the doll's torso. This will be the approximate breast line. It will be lower for older characters than for young ones.
