Form a Wire Armature for a Doll's Torso

The armature for a doll's torso should be formed from sturdy wire. If you have already wired the head of your doll as you created it, you can use this body wire, plus the wire for the arms (as shown here) to create a support for the doll's torso.

Begin With the Body Proportions Measure the wire for the arms according to the proportions of the doll based on it's head size and the eventual height you want for the doll. The arms extended should be at least as wide as the doll will be tall. Position the arms in place at the shoulder line, and make a tight wrap of the head wire around the arm wire to stabilize it. (if your hands are attached, make sure they face in the correct direction.) Determine roughly where the waist line will go and twist the body wire once to create a rough waist mark for reference. Try to keep the armature wires as straight as possible (straighter than you see in these illustrations!)
