As you progress through the stages of building your collection of dolls house miniatures, document the steps you take. If you create part of your collection take photos of the workshop. If you buy a spectacular piece from a new artisan, photograph them with your piece. Take photos of the stages of anything you build. You will create a record of your increasing skills as well as a lasting record to keep with your collection or display. The things you should keep track of are listed below.
- Record prices: A list of receipts and costs of the miniatures in a collection is an important record you may need for an insurance claim, or one you may want if you wish to change out some of your collection.
- Record makers: You may want another similar item someday and knowing it came from a particular company or local craftsperson will be important. Record an address for the maker as well.
- Record Suppliers: If you upholster a sofa and someday need a matching chair, it would be nice to be able to check who supplied the original fabric.
- Record your Joys and Frustrations: Next time someone suggests you wire your own project you may decide to take a class first, or choose a dollhouse with fewer rooms. On the other hand, you may become a specialist in an area you learned for your first collection!
