To Measure the Correct Size of Armature To attach the doll's hands to a body armature which will allow the doll arms to pose, measure a piece of wire as long as the doll's intended height. (Check the measurement between the tips of your outstretched fingers and compare it to your height). Adolescent dolls will need longer arms in proportion to their body height, young children or babies will need shorter arms. If you are not sure of the arm length, make the wire longer than you need, you can shorten it later.
Gently work the wire into the center of the dolls arm down to the base of the hand, making sure the wire remains inside the clay or putty. (if you made the hands from epoxy putty, you may have to drill a hole in the wrist to allow the wire to anchor in the wrist.) Check that the hands are facing the correct direction (thumbs facing each other) and that they are not twisted on the wire. Bake the hands on the wire if they are made from polymer clay, glue them to the wire if they are made from air dried clay or epoxy putty. You can add more detailed limbs to the armature before you complete the body. All you need on the wire for now are the hands.
