Creating the Shape of the Hand Blank for a Miniature Doll's Hand

To make hands sculptures the correct proportion the rough shape should cover half the face.

The length of a hand measured against the face lines the wrist with the chin and the fingers then almost reach the hairline.

Mark the Wrist To create the definition between the hand and the wrist of the dolls house doll, press down on the cylinder of clay or putty so that 2/3 of the length is flattened with the end farthest from the wrist almost completely flat, and the area adjoining the wrist almost the thickness of the wrist.

Shape the Finger Area Shape the flattened area into the rough shape of a hand which reaches it's highest in the top centre, but is lower on either side. As you are working, compare the hand blank shape to the doll's face as a size reference. Trim the length and width of the hand if necessary.

See the reference photo for a side view of the hand showing thickness, and a view of the hand in proportion against the doll's face.
